The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) is an international
system adopted by the IMO (wwww.imo.org) and by the SOLAS convention

Based upon terrestrial and satellite radio services, it ensures rapid,
automated alerting of:
- rescue authorities via shore-based centers
- ships in the immediate vicinity ...
The GMDSS performs the control of ship distress alerting, search and
rescue co-ordination, locating, maritime safety information broadcasting,
general communications as well as bridge-to-bridge communication.
In matter of GMDSS, PRESCOM/SECMAT offers: GMDSS Digital Selective
Call (DSC) equipment, Radio-telephony, Radiotelex, NAVTEX & Distress
and Safety softwares.
